Efficiency of oviposition traps with biolarvicides for monitoring Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus (Diptera, Culicidae), northeast Brazil

چکیده

This study verified the efficiency of ovitraps combined with Saccharopolyspora spinosa and Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis for monitoring Aedes aegypti albopictus in laboratory field conditions. In laboratory, A. aegypti, there was no difference eggs number between treatments grass infusions. For albopictus, average higher infusion. dry season, control. rainy infusion resulted a egg density, both areas. Ovitraps biolarvicides are efficient dengue vector monitoring.

Convergent habitat segregation of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus (Diptera: Culicidae) in southeastern Brazil and Florida.

During the rainy season of 2001, the incidence of the dengue vectors Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus was examined in different habitats of two cities (Rio de Janeiro and Nova Iguaçu) in Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, and in two cities (Palm Beach and Boca Raton) in Florida. Oviposition trap collections were performed in urban, suburban, and rural habitats in both areas. Our hypothesis that the ...

Infestation of Aedes aegypti estimated by oviposition traps in Brazil.

OBJECTIVE To assess infestation levels of Aedes aegypti using the oviposition trap (ovitrap) method and to compare these results with data obtained with the use of indices traditionally applied in public programs aimed at fighting this vector. METHODS Nine sentinel areas in Northeastern, Brazil, were assessed and infestation levels were measured for a nine-month period. Egg density and contai...

The Efficacy of Some Commercially Available Insect Repellents for Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae) and Aedes albopictus (Diptera: Culicidae)

Reducing the number of host-vector interactions is an effective way to reduce the spread of vector-borne diseases. Repellents are widely used to protect humans from a variety of protozoans, viruses, and nematodes. DEET (N,N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide), a safe and effective repellent, was developed during World War II. Fear of possible side effects of DEET has created a large market for "natural" DE...

Invertebrate carcasses as a resource for competing Aedes albopictus and Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae).

Terrestrial invertebrate carcasses are an important resource for insects developing in pitcher plants. However, little is known of the role of these carcasses in other containers, which also receive leaf fall and stemflow inputs. This experiment investigated effects of accumulated invertebrate carcasses as a resource for two competing mosquitoes, Aedes albopictus (Skuse) and Aedes aegypti (L.),...

[Frequency of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus larvae and pupae in traps, Brazil].

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the monthly frequency of larvae and pupae of Aedes albopictus, Aedes aegypti and other mosquitoe species in tires, and the influence of environmental factors on that. METHODS The immature stages of mosquitoes were collected monthly from four tires in the municipality of Nova Iguaçu, Brazil, from November 1997 to October 1998. The following variables were measured: rainfa...
